Pasar Malam prep : Tmn Negara weekend

-

5 days of not updating is bad for health!  >.<

I think I’m relying too much on the so-called ’micro-blogging’ Twitter. I’m tweeting (micro posting) more, and more than usual, replying people’s tweets (micro-commenting?)…I no longer add links to my blog as much as before, instead, I find myself following people more.

It’s not really a good thing you know. I’m reducing my ‘window to the world’ to a mere 140 characters. Hmm….I’m worried about that reducing my intelligence to that of a snail. Should write more.

The week’s been busy so far. Recent increase of orders. New staff training. Podfolio meetings.

And of course, preparation for Tmn Negara this weekend! Do you know what’s the most fun part of preparing for this trip?

Knowing that you’re not prepared at all.

Serious. I know I have hiking stuff all over the place still packed from my KK trip in May, and I know I DON’T have some stuff that I need for this weekend.

So when these two girls told me there was a Pasar Malam session last night, terus I told myself ‘I wana go Pasar Malam!!!’ Which kinda surprised myself….I used to hate pasar malam when I was a kid. I much preferred Subang Parade. Toys’R’Us mah.

Finally, EVo goes to Sri Petaling pasar malam for the first time! TFR37C

A big mistake : driving into Sri Petaling pasar malam.

And the Mother of all Mistakes : Driving the wrong way into One-Way Street into Sri Petaling pasar malam. Doing this will take you at least 30 mins to drive 1/2 km and find parking. Psychkin took only 10 mins to drive us 15 km from Sunway to here  T_T

IMG_2090

Naturally, we was Hungry…and I encountered very fierce Female Eating Machines:

IMG_2095 IMG_2100 IMG_2096IMG_2109

I think I’m starting to understand why aunties and uncles like going to the Pasar Malam. The stuff here are so so cheap.

IMG_2104_resize

I bought this pair of Army Cargo pants for RM 25 for my ‘Anti-Leech Campaign’.

If you go to Studio R, you can only get a stupid Made-in-China Nike water bottle for RM 25.

  nike-water-bottle

That also must wait for the 50% discount during Mega-Sale.

And I was so eager to share that I called EGo and Wan Keng to see if they wanted the army pants too. And almost instantly, they wanted, the same type!

(Secretly I had hoped that they didn’t want it…cos it’ll be 3 guys wearing the same pants to Tmn Negara. Aih, what to do, what to do).

The other thing which I needed to buy for my ‘Anti-Leech Campaign’ was a pair of long socks, which we found for RM10 / 3 pairs…1 pair for RM3!! And this, I also had to buy for the other fellas too. Wan Keng very conveniently told me: ‘Whatever you’re getting for yourself, get 1 set for me also’.

Wah, I feel like I’m being leech-ed on already lor, even before the trip  -__-

Anyway, it’s gona be an activity-filled weekend! :

Transformers2 : The Cinema Attack

-

I hope you read The Star and that you’re holding it in your hand right now. Star Two, Pg 10, to be exact :)

This came out on yesterday’s papers, so better get it quick before it gets thrown away or recycled!! Or you can check out the story online here.

I know, I know, it seems to be just a little too shiok sendiri, but the idea of my story being featured is quite exciting, even though it’s only Transformers :D I don’t know when I’ll appear on papers again. And if I do, it’s not gona be about movies again…that would so look like a self-promotion ploy lol.

It was a coincidental chain of events that started last week, when I met Niki Cheong at the Blogger ‘K’arnival at Jaya 33. Niki is a full-time journalist, also known as The Bangsar Boy, a reference to his fortnightly column in The Star. We got in touch and (I think) he read my blog post on EVo’s Believe it or not : 100 Transformers2 tickets. I’m guessing the title was too catchy to miss. Finally his colleague, Sharmila contacted me for the interview. Jeng Jeng Jeng. Thanks Niki!

Tan Thong Kai

An indispensible character in this story is Thong Kai. If he wasn’t crazy enough to get the 100 tickets, I would have given Jason Mumbles (holding tickets in top part of newspaper cutting) the whole page story to himself hohoho. Cannooooot…..

I was surprised that the Free pair of Hitz.fm passes took so long to find its owners. Seriously, the 100 tickets sold off faster than the free pair. What happened to the Malaysian love for free stuff? :D

Anyway, it finally went to Khai Ling Gymgirl and Nizam. Congrats! =) EGo & me ber-movie with them at Cineleisure on Wednesday. Aiyo this girl is sooo cute la.

Aduhai mataku ter-sepet. Cameraman what is this. Pics taken with EGo’s compact cam!

IMG_2051

I got this big ass bag of goodies from Munchy’s, one of the sponsors, and also my lifesaver every morning. I’ve been eating Munchy’s for breakfast for 3-4 days now.

After the premier that night, I was 1000% sure that I wanted to watch it again on Saturday. The show was that awesome (to me), and I would be watching it with 99 others!

Behold, 100 tickets! Photo taken from Beverly the laughing machine.

DSC00589

To make sure everything went well, I had to:

1. Define the seats under me.
2. Arrange everyone to make sure they were as happy as beans in their seats.

So I did this:

transformers2 seats (28-6-09)

HEY don’t laugh, this was necessary. Having just ONE person without a seat would be a very bad situation. Yellow is under Thong Kai, red is under me. I had to make sure that none of ReneeTay. PatrickToon, Josh.my, Mojosh, Leowazza, Ellie Missycheerio, Ah Chay, EGo, Kok Wui or friends had to sit on the floor lol.

With all things settled, Ego, Mojosh, Josh.my and me rushed from paintball practice to Midvalley on movie day!

I set my hopes high that I could take an insane group pic of 100 people. Something like this would be great..

33415364.IMG_6238

..But I forgot that the groups would be separate and going in the hall at different times. So that means no Big-Gila-Group photo, damn. Only Small-Gila-Group photo ^^

I ain’t got no fancy blending effects for the photo-montage, but hey it’s damn chun to see these happy faces! TFR3F5

My verdict on Transformers 2 : Revenge of the Fallen :

The show was a blast, and an impressive sequel from the first installment. I’m amazed at how an age-old series from the 80s could be revived this extent to satisfy unreasonable demands of the modern audience. FX-wise, the transformation-ing was stunning. Certain scenes were stretched too long however, and humans don’t contribute much besides a whole lot of running and screaming (Megan Fox screamed ‘SAMM!!!’ and Sam screamed ‘BumbleBEE!! more than 10 times respectively throughout the show. All other humans screamed ‘Ahhhhhh!!!’ about 100 times as well). There were occasional limp jokes though, but I guess those were the light moments. The Tazer scenes were priceless HAHA.

Definitely worth watching twice. But a third time will leave me wondering if I should have spent that Rm12 on Nasi Lemak instead of the movie. Crazy Jason Mumbles watched it 8 times some more.

A little mistake that I made was not to organize a get-together dinner after the movie. As awesome as the movie was (even after the 2nd time), it was quite potong steam that the groups regrouped to their original groups and split up! Some went makan, some went home etc….Had we stuck together, we could have crashed a restaurant with our 100-Strong-Gang :D massive stuff wei!

After about half an hour of aimless walking, we finally decided Yoshinoya as our dinner location as and then yumcha at our most popular-for-some-reason location…Krispy Kreme hehe.

Transformer2_Orgy_46

If only I brought Leowazza along. Apparently he has 2-3 dozen UNCLAIMED FREE DONUTS. Damn.

HAHAHAHAHA JOSHUA SORRY I HAD TO POST THIS!

The Jinjangs + Horny Kota Bahruians. Classic combination LOL.

I found myself mysteriously attracted to the mechandise that I saw the next day.

Optimus Prime Helmet : RM 189

Bumblebee 14” model : RM 450+  (with Cannon blast and Voice sound effects)

Sigh. One day, the kid in me will prevail and you’ll start seeing all these toys on my shelves >_<

KL Marathon 2009 : I got Nailed by 4 guys

-

I did it!!

And I’m so shiok by the fact that I did it that I’m gona say it again…

I did it!! klm09

I ran 10km in 1 hour 29 mins for the KL Marathon 2009!

That is a major performance for someone who used to pancit after only 2km of jogging at 6km/hr, complete with dizziness, breathlessness, and occasional spewing of foam from side of the mouth.

Yes, that’s me lor. I used to HATE running. So purpose-less.

But ever since I started running for a cause, the running experience changed for me. I joined the Terry Fox Run twice when I learnt that it was part of the fund-raising efforts for cancer research.

And this time, Standard Chartered has chosen the following charity programmes to fund!

Now that’s running for a purpose!

You know la. How philanthropic I am. TFR3B3

Psychkin and I started our day at the ungodly hour of 5am. While the body muscles were still reeling from paintball yesterday, I constantly asked ‘What am I doing to myself?’ @.@

As we reached Dataran Merdeka at 6.30, it was quite obvious that parking was gonna be a stupid affair. The main turn-offs to Dataran were all closed, and the nearest carparks were already full of cars that came at 4-5am. Crazy Kiasu people! Crazy people who joined 42km marathon who came early and occupy all the parking! Grrr.

So, after parking about 1 million km away, we got ourselves (last-minute) registered….then…Flag Off!!

I’m gonna first apologize about the pics you’ll see from this point. They suck terribly. I have no idea why PDA-phones can’t have better cameras than this. Oh well, better than carrying a big-ass camera all the way. Hehe.

IMAGE_693

Just before we entered the sea of people, I heard a familiar voice ‘EVO EVO EVO!!’

It’s Smashpop! And lots of hantu around him LOLs.

IMAGE_694

I can quite honestly say that in all my years living here, this is the first time I’m literally setting foot on Jln Dato Maharajalela.

IMAGE_697

Good thing that it was on the highway…no slopes, only occasional incline! My knees were so happy xD

Psychkin also camho-ed with many Hantus around her.

IMAGE_699

The 10km run is basically for those who find 5km bearable, and would like to try push it a little further. My personal experience during training says that I can go about 4 km at 9km/hr without stopping. I have never tried going a full 10km.

I decided that I wanted to found out if I could tahan 10km on the day itself haha. Shiok sendiri leh.

To bring things up to scale, there are the following choices runners can make : Full Marathon (42km), Half (21km), 10km (it’s not called Quarter Marathon cos it sounds puny), 5km Fun Run, Kids Dash (3km and 0.95 km).

route_map_full

So 10km is indicated as the light blue trail . Not bad eh. Not too long, not too short, but long enough to make my heart work overtime.

Toilet break!

IMAGE_700

As with all runs, you’ll see a crazy mess of used cups and sponges on the ground (which thankfully will be cleared by Alam Flora after the event). Sometimes I wonder if the wastage is worth it.

IMAGE_708

IMAGE_706

Again I apologize for the hantu right smack in the middle, who seems to be giving her butt a good time lol.

At the 6km mark, I started feeling slight pain in the ball of both my feet. That wasn’t good news. I was happy that I had no stitches so far, but feet pain? Too early wei! Good thing after 5-10 mins of slowing down, the pain wore off.

I felt that thankful for my shoes, which could have been the cause of relief. And suddenly I saw an Uncle running barefoot.

IMAGE_704

Wah. Isn’t doing this bad for his joints? Some more so old ady wor  -__-

One of the wonderful things about joining a marathon is discovering much of the surroundings in KL. I took 2-3 minutes to look up in the sky while running, and realized that so much are missed when one drives across the same stretch in 10 seconds. On your feet, you would absorb the fresh sights, singing birds and fresh air i.e. the green part of KL.

I know it’s hard to think of all this while your legs are burning, but try Lah. Good for your mental health.

At 8km, I started to fall back. Psychkin had already gained some km’s ahead of me, and fatigue was kicking in already. Hey, my max was 7.5km during Terry Fox ok. This was unknown territory man.

Worse is when you’re faced with a U-Turn (after point 39), when you can actually see the other side that’s close to the finish line, except that there’s another 1+ km more to run. I was so tempted to turn into Jalan Semarang instead of going down to Jalan Sultan Ismail lol.

route_map_full

The presence of some hot female supporters was good in giving that much-needed extra boost.

Go_EVo

There was less than 10 minutes left…Psychkin just reached the finish line. And my pants were falling down already.

Just when it seemed like I would miss the qualifying time,I came to the last bend before the finish line. The last 500 meters. The last 5 minutes. I ran as fast as my short legs would take me…Pants fall down also never mind.

And I made it past the finish line at 1:29:20. 40 seconds to spare haha….!! And I still had no stitches. I impressed myself.

IMAGE_729

(This was after I pulled up my falling pants)

IMAGE_733

As I took a breather while lying on the ground, that was when disaster struck. I was nailed by 4 guys who initially seemed to be walking innocently down the field.

.

IMAGE_735

I was completely taken by surprise. How could anyone attack a defenseless guy lying down and enjoying his moment of relaxation?

Point to note : Psychkin is really fast with a camera when it comes to shots that look very…wrong. Like the one above. >.<

Btw, why must clowns always be guys? I would have loved the idea of being nailed by 4 female clowns….oh well. Maybe next time I’ll get lucky. As for now I’ll have to be satisfied with the Gay Clown Scandal.

After that point of climax, we met up with Zahim & Smashpop. Photos thanks to Niki Cheong @ BangsarBoy!

scklm6scklm5

We also caught up with the Siao Gang aka Adrian, Eunice, Jen. (Junn, Hikaru are off-cam)

IMAGE_738

IMAGE_737

And of cos I went and cari my uni gang also. Me, Patrick Toon, Wei Luen. 3 Macho engineers from Monash.

IMAGE_744

Wei Luen apparently prefers to leave the safety pins stuck on his shirt, without fastening it. Nipple piercing, anyone?

IMAGE_743

The Real Monash Material.

IMAGE_747

IMAGE_714

I never had this much fun in any run before. With the right company, all things always seem awesome :)

IMAGE_749

This was before we went to Lot 10 to shower and our 10km celebration : Saisaki Jap Buffet ^o^ I think I had 1 too many oysters. The one that Psychkin stuffed down my throat I ate really gave me the lausai last night.

I’m really looking forward to the next marathon, my next goal! All I have to do is be more careful of clowns that appear randomly. Hehe.

Cheers!
