Transformers2 : The Cinema Attack

-

I hope you read The Star and that you’re holding it in your hand right now. Star Two, Pg 10, to be exact :)

This came out on yesterday’s papers, so better get it quick before it gets thrown away or recycled!! Or you can check out the story online here.

I know, I know, it seems to be just a little too shiok sendiri, but the idea of my story being featured is quite exciting, even though it’s only Transformers :D I don’t know when I’ll appear on papers again. And if I do, it’s not gona be about movies again…that would so look like a self-promotion ploy lol.

It was a coincidental chain of events that started last week, when I met Niki Cheong at the Blogger ‘K’arnival at Jaya 33. Niki is a full-time journalist, also known as The Bangsar Boy, a reference to his fortnightly column in The Star. We got in touch and (I think) he read my blog post on EVo’s Believe it or not : 100 Transformers2 tickets. I’m guessing the title was too catchy to miss. Finally his colleague, Sharmila contacted me for the interview. Jeng Jeng Jeng. Thanks Niki!

Tan Thong Kai

An indispensible character in this story is Thong Kai. If he wasn’t crazy enough to get the 100 tickets, I would have given Jason Mumbles (holding tickets in top part of newspaper cutting) the whole page story to himself hohoho. Cannooooot…..

I was surprised that the Free pair of Hitz.fm passes took so long to find its owners. Seriously, the 100 tickets sold off faster than the free pair. What happened to the Malaysian love for free stuff? :D

Anyway, it finally went to Khai Ling Gymgirl and Nizam. Congrats! =) EGo & me ber-movie with them at Cineleisure on Wednesday. Aiyo this girl is sooo cute la.

I got this big ass bag of goodies from Munchy’s, one of the sponsors, and also my lifesaver every morning. I’ve been eating Munchy’s for breakfast for 3-4 days now.

After the premier that night, I was 1000% sure that I wanted to watch it again on Saturday. The show was that awesome (to me), and I would be watching it with 99 others!

Behold, 100 tickets! Photo taken from Beverly the laughing machine.

To make sure everything went well, I had to:

1. Define the seats under me.
2. Arrange everyone to make sure they were as happy as beans in their seats.

So I did this:

transformers2 seats (28-6-09)

HEY don’t laugh, this was necessary. Having just ONE person without a seat would be a very bad situation. Yellow is under Thong Kai, red is under me. I had to make sure that none of ReneeTay. PatrickToon, Josh.my, Mojosh, Leowazza, Ellie Missycheerio, Ah Chay, EGo, Kok Wui or friends had to sit on the floor lol.

With all things settled, Ego, Mojosh, Josh.my and me rushed from paintball practice to Midvalley on movie day!

I set my hopes high that I could take an insane group pic of 100 people. Something like this would be great..

33415364.IMG_6238

..But I forgot that the groups would be separate and going in the hall at different times. So that means no Big-Gila-Group photo, damn. Only Small-Gila-Group photo ^^

I ain’t got no fancy blending effects for the photo-montage, but hey it’s damn chun to see these happy faces! TFR3F5

My verdict on Transformers 2 : Revenge of the Fallen :

The show was a blast, and an impressive sequel from the first installment. I’m amazed at how an age-old series from the 80s could be revived this extent to satisfy unreasonable demands of the modern audience. FX-wise, the transformation-ing was stunning. Certain scenes were stretched too long however, and humans don’t contribute much besides a whole lot of running and screaming (Megan Fox screamed ‘SAMM!!!’ and Sam screamed ‘BumbleBEE!! more than 10 times respectively throughout the show. All other humans screamed ‘Ahhhhhh!!!’ about 100 times as well). There were occasional limp jokes though, but I guess those were the light moments. The Tazer scenes were priceless HAHA.

Definitely worth watching twice. But a third time will leave me wondering if I should have spent that Rm12 on Nasi Lemak instead of the movie. Crazy Jason Mumbles watched it 8 times some more.

A little mistake that I made was not to organize a get-together dinner after the movie. As awesome as the movie was (even after the 2nd time), it was quite potong steam that the groups regrouped to their original groups and split up! Some went makan, some went home etc….Had we stuck together, we could have crashed a restaurant with our 100-Strong-Gang :D massive stuff wei!

After about half an hour of aimless walking, we finally decided Yoshinoya as our dinner location as and then yumcha at our most popular-for-some-reason location…Krispy Kreme hehe.

If only I brought Leowazza along. Apparently he has 2-3 dozen UNCLAIMED FREE DONUTS. Damn.

HAHAHAHAHA JOSHUA SORRY I HAD TO POST THIS!

EVo’s Believe it or not : 100 Transformers2 tickets

-

Two years ago, when I heard that there was going to be a movie called Transformers, I was really char-dou.

As far as I could remember (flashback around 4-5 years), Transformers (picture me with a very skeptical face), was just a cartoon about an over-ambitious Optimus Prime with his Autobots (more skeptical face) and an even more over-ambitious Megatron with his Decepticons,

And these robots were continuously fighting, for some reason.

Of course, when I was a kid, Transformers was heaven-sent. I watched the show in amazement, wondering how these robots could switch from ‘Hot-Wheels’ vehicles to weapon-wielding super-heroes. I could never get enough of collecting these action figures and playing with them for hours alone on my living room floor.

At that time, all the boys wanted to be Optimus Prime, the Tai Ko.

And nobody wanted to be Megatron.

After awhile, I expectedly got BORED. Sure la, how many of these toys can you collect anyway. And thanks to technology being copied transferred to Asian countries, any plastic thing that can change shape is called a Transformer.

And who knew that 15 years down the road, the Transformer hype would be back again, thanks to a crazy genius called Michael Bay…

…who made Transformers an insane success last year, and I must admit that the show really revived my childhood memories. I’m not saying that I will start collecting these action figures again (even if I did, I wouldn’t have time to play with them on my living room floor), but when I heard that Transformers 2 : Revenge of the Fallen was out, I flipped.

The babe hero robot team is back!!

The amount of publicity was appalling. Radio stations, mobile phone companies, operators, Burger King, KFC were all neck deep in the advertising of this new movie. All sorts of companies that could participate have participated.

If Transformers could get married and have babies, Pampers would surely be there to advertise for their diapers.

So, to catch up with the hype, my friend Thong Kai decided that he would do something different for this show.

Blogger_Karnival_035

He would go to GSC @ Midvalley and buy tickets one week in advance for the movie. Many, many tickets. When I asked him how many he was buying, he wasn’t really sure. Until after he bought it, I asked him how many he got.

One freaking Hundred tickets….!!

DSC02360  Some cool shit eh.

Photos taken from Beverly’s (Thong Kai’s pretty cousin) blog.

I was initially quite concerned, what if we couldn’t get enough people to come? If it was FOC like other movie screenings, it’ll finish within hours, but it was a fully paid-for thing (RM12 / ticket – counter price) and Malaysians didn’t like paying for anything.

But I was wrong.

Within a few hours, 30-40 of the tickets were scooped up by those I invited.

And by this morning, 90+ tickets were taken by mine and Thong Kai’s friends. And I had more people trying to cram in (I felt so bad saying ‘No’!)

Damn lah, Kai, you should have bought all 150 seats! >_<

Anyway, the guest list goes like this:

Renee Tay x 6
Patrick Toon x 4
Leowazza x 2
Joshua Chay x 6
EGo
Missycheerio x 2
Kok Wui x 8
Beverly x 5
Me & Psychkin

Thong Kai’s other friends.

Fualamaaa. This is gona be CRAZY…..!!

I also happened to be lucky enough to win 4 passes from Hitz.fm for tomorrow’s screening at 9.30 Cineleisure. I’m looking to give away 1 pair (this one’s for free). Any takers?

And I’m really very interested to know how they will translate ‘Transformers 2 : Revenge of the Fallen’ to Malay. What do you think it’ll be? Well…my guess is…

Oh boy, I can’t WAIT.

All psyched up for Xmas!

-

canon40d

The days just keep getting happier as Xmas draws close.

Oh, everywhere I go is just full of the season’s joy. It’s almost like ecstasy! ^^

Midvalley – The Gardens

Tell me you don’t get the warm fuzzy feeling when the Xmas songs slowly but surely lifts your spirits as you stroll along the shopping aisles. I especially know from nostalgic memories from my trips to Europe when I was really little. Images of snowy mountains and the radiance from the fireplace in little homes are plain unforgettable.

Sigh. I just love Xmas. I’m no Christian, but I sure prefer this festival much much much more than even Chinese New Year. Yeah, the effect of angpau is wearing off LOL.

The feeling gets even better when you immerse yourself in the occasion with your someone special.

IMG_9402

Hehehe. Today Psychkin can officially forget about her thesis! Final presentation over!

IMG_9365

Just look at her face. Like kena Lottery + jackpot only. If only I recorded her scream in over-excitement kekeke.

I promised her a treat…and so I did!

IMG_9427

I had no choice but to join her and eat. I can’t let her eat alone right. xD

Say hello to Mr Appetizer Prawn.

Some handsome guy drinking green tea. Hoho.

I ate so much to the point that I had to try so hard convince my tummy to tell my body to stand up and make a move.

IMG_9504

As part of the treat, our next target was CapSquare Mall! It’s quite a new place, open about 3-4 months now.

IMG_9524

IMG_9526

I think most people won’t know the way to Capsquare Mall so here’s the map.

waytocapitalsquare

Main reason? To check out the Happy Hippyz bazaar that’s happening today and tomorrow!

IMG_9557

IMG_9533

Honestly it was kinda disappointing. The corridor was too congested for the stalls and the items were just brazenly displayed like Pasar Malam. I couldn’t tell if the items were new or 2nd hand stuff.

IMG_9534

One thing that attracted me though was this stall selling these old-fashioned Sarsi from Negeri Sembilan. Yes Sarsi!

IMG_9543

IMG_9544

I couldn’t resist and Psychkin got me 1 cool bottle.

IMG_9545

For Rm 2.50, what you get is Sarsi-flavoured water with no gas! Interesting taste really. 3/4 bottle down and finally I decided that I may collapse into a diabetic coma if I finished the whole thing. Wah sugar-loaded wei. So we threw it away LOL.

IMG_9550
Me & Psychkin in a mirror as I go Sugar-High.

I wanted to snap a baby Xmas tree when suddenly this charbo decided to obstruct my view with her posterior end.

IMG_9536

Huhuhu.

Also there was a stall selling these cute plastic cylinders in the form of cameras, hearts, peace signs, even Ipods and Gameboys. I think they call it Froufrou, yes?

IMG_9551

And after shopping…. finally the main reason going to Capsquare Mall:

dostana2

Psychkin and I finally watched our first Hindi movie together!!

I’m telling you, Hindi movies have evolved so much since the last. Dostana stars Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan, which is one of THREE movies that Priyanka is releasing these 2-3 months.

And boy, Priyanka is Burning Hot baby.

dostana

As you probably know, all Hindi films have a hero and heroine, which makes sex a mandatory element.

And in this show, no less. What shocked me is the openness of Bollywood when it came to choosing what to display onscreen. Kids and Muslims (as usual), this is not the show for you.

Quite honestly, as Psychkin (and you if you watch the show) will agree, the level of Bollywood films have surpassed Malaysian films (without doubt) and definitely can take on Hollywood. I was impressed by the storyline, humour, filmography, settings, choreography, ending and how they evoke feelings in me during the movie.

For one who wrote off Zohan as a spoof and wasn’t impressed by HighSchoolMusical 3, trust me on this one. If you don’t enjoy this movie I’ll refund your ticket, no questions asked! :D

I know I go to India often, but that don’t make me Pro-India OK. Still there’s many things I don’t like about that place keke.

After the movie we came across this shop selling novelty items for Xmas deco.

IMG_9561

Nice but not cheap!

I’m very liking this shot:

I’m really in holiday mood now.

Anybody wanna go Cambodia somewhere early next year?

Cheers!
