Island Cafe with a long-lost kawan

-

Just got back from makan with Karenananana Cheow who was missing from the face of the earth for months, until she came back last week.

And this girl, come back also never call. Had I not noticed her pic by Howard U at the Standout Tiger party, I would’ve never found out that she came back.

It was all planned nicely at first. My appointment in KL finished at 6. Then I meet Karena & friend at 7.30.

At 6, she tells me she has no transport to get to KL.

She calls me wai-dai cos I offered to drive to Sri Petaling and meet her.

New Cheap Drink discovered!

-

I’m currently sitting at the new Station 1 Cafe at Tmn Equine that’s about 4 minutes drive from my house.

No jam.

No toll.

No parking problem.

4 hours of peace at work. (funny how I have to come out of home to find peace when people normally GO HOME to find peace…ahh but that’s another story).

And best part is…

A new cheap drink has been discovered!

The writeup here says…

  • Teh Asli 3 Layer – 3 Layer Tea is a popular drink from Sarawak, This drink has a very unique taste and F&N Evaporated Filled Milk is proven to be the best Evaporated Milk to compliment the richness of the tea and the sweetness of the Palm Syrup, creating the perfect blend of aroma, texture and taste. In line with our communication message “Perfect taste, Everytime”, we are proud to bring you the Authentic 3 Layer Tea right here in West Malaysia, Come and try this new exciting drink in Station One Cafe outlets now!

Wah the F&N endorsement is verrrrrry ‘subtle’ lor haha.

But it don’t matter. Cause it costs only RM3.50.

Bye bye Starbucks! I never liked your RM 8 drink anyway TFR3D0

And can sit here in a small hidden corner and surf porn for a super long time without getting chased away also!

This ‘3 Layer Tea’ tastes of Milk Tea that uses Gula Melaka instead of sugar. Interesting.

I know Oldtown’s got cheaper Ximut Milk Tea, but this glass here is about 30% bigger than what you get at Oldtown. And come on. Oldtown = Old School. It’s out of fashion people.

I have a feeling Station 1’s gona be seeing a lot of me now…muahahahaha.

Cheers!

Update:

WEIRD : suddenly everyone in the restaurant sneezed / coughed / eyes watered, including me. Are we under biochemical attack?

Not really a makeover but still, better than nothing. Smangat is still there.

I love dumplings. It’s a mashup of all things lovely : beans, meat, egg, shrimps, chestnuts, everything that’s good.

Oh when you set it on a steamer…the smell of culinary nirvana..

The actual story goes like this: (also taken from http://choopaulo.blogspot.com)

  • Zongzi is traditionally eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival (Mandarin: Duanwu; Cantonese: Tuen Ng) which falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar (08 June 2008), commemorating the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet from the kingdom of Chu who lived during the Warring States period. Known for his patriotism, Qu Yuan tried unsuccessfully to warn his king and countrymen against the expansionism of their Qin neighbors. When the Qin Dynasty general Bai Qi took Yingdu, the Chu capital, in 278 BC, Qu Yuan’s grief was so intense that he drowned himself in the Miluo river after penning the Lament for Ying. According to legend, packets of rice were thrown into the river to prevent fish from eating the poet’s body.

I duno how the story evolved but I completely love the result…
