ADV : Petrosains Muzika and my homemade music

-

I was always intrigued by world of art and creativity.

Artists-create-live-artwork-at-the-Tiger-Translate-party

I made a very obvious discovery since I was a kid : That I had absolutely NO sense of creativity at all. I couldn’t draw. I couldn’t paint. Every human face that I tried to sketch ended up looking like a potato.

Back then, there were art classes in school (which I felt was a total drag), and teacher would give out coloring books, and my favorite being the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

NinjaTurtles1

I would then color exactly the way teacher asked me to. Face = green. Shell = brown. Bandana = red. My coloring will NEVER cross the line and will always follow what teacher says. Even if she tells me to color Raphael’s teeth blue, I gladly oblige.

By now, you probably have a rough idea on how creative I am, in art at least. A complete nut.

But I was fortunate to have discovered a knack for music, much thanks to the parents who got me into music classes, starting with piano when I was 6. Piano class eventually also became a drag (the teacher was this aunty with cheap perfume, and could pull a Really long face if I played badly). I mean whatthehell man auntie I play for whose enjoyment, yours or mine?

So. Piano came to a slow down, when the excuse of PMR exams came by very conveniently, and I was ‘forced’ to stop classes. Whilst my parents agreed that I needed time off to study, I very wisely used that spare time….to learn guitar in the Prefect Room.

At that time, the only available guitar was the classic, worn-out Kapok guitar that probably got played with by every dude in the prefect board. It seemed to the the best way to pick up girls at that time. Especially when you played ‘Miss You Like Crazy’ by The Moffats. Wah that one was a sure win.

The trouble with me was that I kept wanting to try out every single new instrument that I happen to come across. I spent a good 2 hours figuring out how a violin works during Siew Chin’s birthday party 5 years ago. Causing a mini audio riot in the house. Figured I was lucky the neighbours didn’t call the cops.

I didn’t stop there. I tried out my chances of being a rockstar (Shiok sendiri version) by jammin it out on electric guitar and bass.

Oasis : Don’t Look Back in Anger

Pearl Jam : Last Kiss

As you can see, I’m an avid fan of alternative rock and metal when I was a kid. And Still very much so today heh heh. And my curiosity for new instrument still grows.

Today, the music creative industry has changed entirely. Sound that used to be produced by pulling strings or blowing into mouthpieces is now available at a push of a simple button.

Like during the recent Salsa Cruise, I discovered more instruments that were some really cool shiz.

I can spin some turntable now yo! (very, very, very basic only)

And now, Petrosains Malaysia is having just the thing that’ll pretty much open a new dimension on ‘music’ that we all thought we knew.

petromuzikascrnshot2

It’s happening at Petrosains KLCC all through 8 Jan to 31 March, where there’s an entire setup of stuff for your personal pleasure. For starters, try out the scratching machine!

itch-cat-scratch-pad

And it’s no other than Jason Mynjayz himself! Cute eh? Ok, not quite. He did go and checked out Muzika last week.

4273690992_3c034ec869

There’s a whole lot of other stuff to check out, like the Air Guitar, Never Ending Piano, origins of Music, in a very funky getup called ‘Muzika : The Science of Music’. Loads of photos taken by this dude, but I’m gona save the suspense and let you check it out yourself.

4272947437_ea86a1c50d4272947367_85121c69ec

I’m just wondering why they don’t have ENCLOSED cubicles for each sound-machine. What if I decide to start to sing aloud to the songs? Will I get arrested by security like I almost kena in Siew Chin’s house?

But I guess I’ll take a chance..this is the first event of its kind in Malaysia, support a bit lor.

After all, entrance is affordable. Really affordable.

petromuzikascrnshot3

What’s more, they have this quiz thing where you answer online, or alternatively just send it to your friend. If your luck’s on fire, there’s these cool prizes to be won. Click here for more details already!

petromuzikascrnshot4 I’m not sure why the prize is a PS3 / Nintendo Wii…are they promoting music or gaming now? Haha.

So if you will, go check out Muzika by Petrosains. Check out the main site here.

Or if you prefer to destroy your ears and wana catch some homemade music, check out my last video. This is Rockstar Mainstage shiz man. This is what I call art!

Salsa : How I got hooked, and how you can join the dark side.

-

In November, I had one of the most fun photography assignments I ever had since I started shooting.

IMG_7430a

The Salsa Cruise involved people, it involved a lot of females (definitely), and it involved a lot of body movement. None of which I was too interested in initially, so as I told many people, I ventured into it purely as a photographer. According to TimLow, he was looking for someone who was good at capturing emotions.

IMG_9013a

I think that maybe I should have warned him beforehand that the emotion that I capture the most was that of MY OWN. I don’t think he would’ve complained though. Camwhoring, after all, is an art ma *crazy laugh*

So, after Day #1 of the Salsa Cruise show at Singapore, came the most exciting part of the journey.

Jordan Frisbee of Jordan & Tatiana.

IMG_9557a Kadu Pires & Larissa from Brazil.

It was sail-off day on the Legend of the Seas! Ain’t it grand?

IMG_2873a

I would have looooved to get a shot while on the pier standing next to the ship for a typical China-man shot but they simply wouldn’t let me get off the boarding passageway. What’s wrong with these security guards? So I could only take a photo of the tugboat instead. Damn.

IMG_9563a

And this is what you’d see on board. Feast your eyes, people…..

IMG_4508aIMG_9644aIMG_1318aIMG_5310a IMG_1622a

Actually, this is what you get if you board this ship as a regular cruise member.

But what you’re gona see next is what brought the whole thing to life. The Salsa part of the Cruise. Where over 300 guests from all over the world gathered…they came from different origins, practised different cultures, ate different food, but they all spoke one language : Dance.

Honestly, it all came as a shock to me. Here I was, standing with a camera, watching couples who barely knew each other, grinding each others bonbon dancing to music that I can only describe as songs that you hear in the movies. Like the very South American type, eg when James Bond visits Morocco.

I shot and shot like Rambo with an M-16 machinegun. And the more I shot, the happier the faces I got.

IMG_9927aIMG_9940aIMG_0121a

IMG_0107a

This artist Magna Gopal was originally also very happy, until I took such a LOW shot that she thought I was doing an upskirt. Oops..too artistic maybe.

IMG_0167a

Damn happy right these people! While wondering why…I put some facts together.

I don’t Salsa / Ballroom dance, but I do club. That’s technically dancing right? So because I do not smile as happily as these Salsa people while clubbing, I did some thinking and made this table to see a comparison between Salsa and Clubbing.

Salsa Clubbing
Sobreity 100% Sober or 100% drunk Must be at least 50% drunk, or body cannot move.
Lighting Any Must be dark, preferably with laser lights shooting around.
Comfort Zone If you can dance, you can dance with anyone in the club The moment you speak to that hot chick on the table next door, she’ll think you wana take her home.
Skill Required? Yes. Even basic will do. None at all. It’s so dark, noone can see even if you dance like Barney the Dinosaur. Everyone else is drunk anyway.

And get this. A regular Friday night Salsa party in KL costs me RM10 (including a Coke / mineral water). A regular Friday night Clubbing session costs me RM60 at least (assuming I don’t dun run into road blocks that I need to bribe).

Ulysses McLaren and Lidia McMahon

The directors of the cruise were, not surprisingly, awesome people themselves.

IMG_6385a TimLow, Audrey, James, Tamie.

Even though I was on board as a photographer, I was allowed to join the dance workshops, as long as I had done my share of shooting.

AT THIS POINT I TENSION LOR.

Part of me wanted to try. And part of me knew that if I did, I would look completely like a fool. And sure enough, I did, when I joined the Bachata workshop under Tony and Daniella.

IMG_4148a

Had I simply partnered with anyone, it wouldn’t be so bad. But guess who dragged me out to dance with.

IMG_4226a

It’s Zher from 8TV. And it was caught on tape also! *faints*

The only real consolation was that she was a noob like me. So it was a potato dancing with a potato, and that was still OK. Hehe. The best part is, no one laughed. So FAIL on the dancefloor is allowed! *yes*

IMG_9826a

IMG_1617a The incredible Lidia McMahon that exists only in guys’ wildest dreams.

Salsa, Bachata and Zouk are considered street dances, and are the only dance (as far as I know) that can be brought to parties in clubs. You can’t do that with dances like Tango, Rhumba, Ballroom etc. Salsa is a social dance; a universal language that brings people together.

I must admit that after all these, I found myself very drawn in, and wanted to get involved if I could.

So I’ll share with you on how YOU can get right in. I got this invite from TimLow a few day ago, that I wanna share with y’all:

FairPoster2

If you think that you dance like Barney, then this event will be perfect for you. It caters for newbies and experienced dancers alike. Organized by the same people who pulled off the successful Salsa Cruise 2009.

There’s food, dance workshops, games, performances, holidays, up for grabs. For free. And if you’re worried that you don’t know people there, that’s what I’m there for. I’ll make sure you get acquainted in no time ;)

Once again, here’s details for ya:

Date : 30th January 2010

Time : 12:00pm to 6:00pm

Venue : Kuala Lumpur Dancers Association (KLDA)IMG_6719

Level 2, Indoor Sport Complex (near Hotel Grand Olympic / behind Stadium Negara)

50150 Kuala Lumpur

We’ll be waiting for you :) Join the revolution….the Salsa revolution!

My new love : We were so lusty lusty

-

It’s finally here!

My new chick. My precious darling.

I rushed down to town yesterday, to beat the traffic…and I was taken by surprise at what I saw on the way to Low Yat.

IMG00422-20100112-1812

This street between Imbi Plaza and Sg Wang which is normally Freaking Packed, was deserted. At 6.30pm on a weekday evening!

I know that churches are getting burnt and shit like that, but I’m just that much closer to thinking that the public is paranoid. Too paranoid.

After some chatting around, I’ve heard (HEARD only ah) that all this ruckus ain’t just as simple as a religious brawl. It’s political. There are pushing forces behind these series of church attacks…and people believe that it’s gota do with creating a mess that only a declaration of Martial Law can control. And we all know who’s holding the remote behind the military…

So. Know your rights. There’s a launch of the Second Phase of the Kempen Perlembagaanku that’s organized by the Bar Council, that aims to educate the public on knowing their rights. This goes in conjunction with the launch of their second booklet ‘The Rakyat Guides entitled ‘Constitutional Institutions and the Separation of Powers’. Details? Check it out:

Date:           15 Jan 2010 (Friday)

Venue:        Auditorium, Sunway University College, No. 5, Jalan Universiti, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya

Time:          4:00 pm – 6:30 pm

Panelists:    (1) YB Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar (Deputy Speaker, Dewan Rakyat)

(2) Cabinet Minister

(3) Judge

Moderator:  Dato’ VC George (Retired Court of Appeal Judge and former Bar Council Chairman)

PerlembagaanKu / MyConstitutionPerlembagaanKu / MyConstitution

It sounds like a pretty tea party by the Bar Council, and I would attend it if it wasn’t right smack in the middle of the busiest day of the week. ‘Sides, hanging around in Sunway College always makes me feel young again haha. But Friday man..how to go lah. :-/

‘Your collective presence will mark the start of an exciting and meaningful year as you join us in our Campaign to promote constitutionalism and the rule of law at a critical time of our nation’s history.’ <- this would be the main message they’re trying to send out.

So if you will, do check them out.And you know what, I don’t know my rights in detail either. Hah. But hey, it’s good stuff for your blog too, if you choose to blog about it :) Here for official campaign’s website.

Anyway, (after this much of side-tracking) I also FAST-walked to where I wanted to go lah. I also KiaSi one ok :D some more using the lorong belakang to walk.

So, without further ado, let me introduce my new Lou Por.

She was initially shy when I gently carried her out and got her laid on the table. There she was..naked, untouched, all of her belonging to only me.

IMG00423-20100112-1822

As we got to know each other better, I finally managed to persuade her to spread herself open for me to explore her body..

IMG00428-20100112-1826

And as she got more and more comfortable with me, I found out that she liked being on top, so I positioned myself lower and lower below her..while she spread herself open even more..

IMG00429-20100112-1827

Getting it on from this point was a challenge, because she was built really slim, and I didn’t want to hurt her by going head-in so quickly. So I belakang mari and molested her bottom first.

IMG00426-20100112-1825

And after 30 minutes of heated engagement and lusty ravishing with each other, finally she lay there wide open resting on the table..getting herself ready…

IMG00427-20100112-1825

Almost ready…to face the world…

IMG00424-20100112-1823

And just like most chicks, they won’t go home with you until you’ve gone shopping with them. Aih.

IMG00430-20100112-2244

Cheers!

P.S.   Read more about my HP Probook 5310m here ;) Or you can check out these videos during its launch a few months back in the US. It’s really SO sexy. Sorry for the camera-phone pics above..it’s taken with my Bold9000 and it doesn’t do my laptop ANY justice. One day, I will post much better pics. One day :D
