O hai.

My name is Ooi Eu Veng, a 28 year old. Most friends call me EVo, because it’s easier to remember. Some who forget just call me ‘Handsome’ … and it’s alright. It happens all the time.

This blog is a myriad of things to me. It is the window to my world, outlet for anger, cash cow (occasionally), product review source, but what I have come to appreciate the most is the blogosphere’s amazing networking capabilities. I’ve got to know more people in the past year through blogging than I have in other mediums in 5 years before that. Blogger events and blog hopping helped me do that.

I dream of big things, but have painfully come to understand that small things have to happen first before the big ones. I hope on luck, but I can’t count on it. I always lose money in the casino. And I am bad at games of luck.

What I’m good at, however, is being obstinate. It takes a LOT to make me give up or change my mind. I take time to commit to something, but once I do, it’s because I know it’s the right way to go. I screw up 10% of the time though. But hey, 90% is a good rate of return

However, having said that, I’m completely and devotedly open to new ideas. I enjoy signing up for new websites, startups (just for the heck of it) and exploring business ideas or partnerships (that don’t cost a limb). I guess that’s part of being an entrepreneur.

I am based in Malaysia and I love this country. The food’s good, girls are plentiful, and petrol’s cheap. All we need is a new government. And I believe that the day will come where we will pay our taxes because we want to, not because we have to.

So what do we find in my blog?

On the left, you will find a vertical bar filled with photos. Clicking the titles on the Rollover will magically reveal my photo albums. Then you’ll find photos that I’ve been shooting (either for collection or commercial purposes) over the past year. Oh yes, you are free to copy them for personal use if you like, since I’ve stuck my watermark on already.

On the right, you’ll find a few links. ‘Categories’ will lead you to the relevant posts in categories.

A little further down, you’ll find what is probably the most important part, where you subscribe to my RSS feeds, follow me on Twitter, find me on Facebook, or get my email.

And finally on the post section, you’ll find my narration of life experience, parodies, product and event reviews, and sometimes, crap. I refrain from getting too serious while blogging. I don’t want to get off a serious day at work, go home to a blog and get all serious again. So stupid.

I can’t say that I’m an good blogger. I’ve had my share of lame / annoying posts that irritated the heck out of some people. But strangely, some others love those posts and I can’t explain why. My personal suggestion is for you to subscribe to my feeds just to find out for yourself

I get this interesting question sometimes : ‘Are you a Photographer?’  The answer is yes..and no.  ’Yes’ because I carry a Canon 40D + 430 EX II flash at some events and truth be told, I enjoy the feeling of being part of ‘media’. But ‘No’ because I get lazy sometimes, and refuse to shoot even when the conditions are right. I guess that doesn’t really constitute a photographer, does it? Besides, photographers always get taken advantage of, and I hate that. But when the time comes for me to shoot, I make sure that I get the shot.

I find it ludicrous that many people who carry a big-ass dslr (must have a big-ass flash) proudly declares him/herself a photographer. Major pet peeve! I’m only a photographer sometimes. Other times, I’m just a guy with a big camera. By profession, I’m an engineer. My company supplies equipment for the steel industry.

My passion, however, lies in social media and web startups … I am currently (as of 4-8-2010) involved in the development of an online branding network, and planning several other startups. They are to be listed on my ‘Portfolio’ section, but they’re not quite ready, so stay tuned If you have any, ANY at all, ideas for a startup (online / technology / commercial), I would absolutely LOVE to hear about it from you; Do email me at euveng [at] gmail.com.
